I sit by the ocean I sit by the sea.
I’m watching the waves and the waves they watch me.
They give and then give; they take and then take.
They whisper and ripple, they roar and they quake.
What’s in the whisper? What’s in the roar?
What makes me stay with my feet on the shore?
I don’t mind the sand, I like the gulls’ cry.
I love a blue sky and a sea-breezy sigh.
I sing to the sun and I watch the drifts
Of the clouds as they melt from great puffs into wisps.
But I won’t touch the ocean, the thought makes me shake;
While she gives and then gives she will take and then take.
